In this activity, two exercises are combined into one to provide both a review exercise for closing a session and an icebreaker for opening future sessions. Participants create objects symbolising their learning to put into a time capsule that can be opened by the next group of participants on the course. Allow 40 minutes.

Participants review their learning in this exercise by noting key learning points and actions on various flipcharts designed to prompt reflection. Allow 30 minutes. No separate task sheet.

This exercise combines an icebreaker with a review. It helps participants to focus on what they want to learn from the session at the beginning, and brings the learning full circle to allow them to review their achievements at the end. Allow 25 minutes for the icebreaker and 30 minutes for the review. No separate task sheet.

This exercise is designed for use in debriefing participants at the conclusion of a workshop or for any session involving group review/feedback. Allow 25 minutes. No separate task sheet.

Celebrating success and good times, as well as reflecting on and learning from bad experiences, is an excellent way to recognise achievements and highlight progress at the end of a project or financial year. Allow 45 minutes for completion.

Based on the whole-brain approach to learning, learning maps or pictograms combine both words and images to provide a powerful tool to enhance long-term memory retention. Allow 35–40 minutes.

A team exercise to aid learning and memory retention at the end of a training session. Allow 45 minutes.

In this exercise, participants review their learning by answering numbered statements picked from a ‘raffle’ box or hat. Allow 10-15 minutes for completion. No separate task sheet.

Participants trade cards with each other in this review exercise until they are left with a card that most accurately sums up what they gained from the session. Allow 30 minutes. No separate task sheet.

A fun participative technique that follows on from an idea-generating exercise and allows each participant to ‘rate’ the available options by means of a mock auction. Allow one hour. No separate task sheet.
