Developed by the Boston Consulting Group in the 1970s, the Growth-Share matrix was created as a clear, simple measure for organisations to decide where to allocate resources. It can be used on two levels – at organisational level, to strategically analyse business units within the organisation, or at business unit level, to analyse specific products and services produced by that unit. This article provides an explanation of the matrix and its use.
