Change management often sounds something of a contradiction in terms. It suggests order and foresight, implies that change can be controlled and directed, hints of understanding the present and knowing the future. Change, we are led to believe, is linear and logical; a question of cause sensibly leading to a predictable effect. Yet we also know how disruptive, multifaceted and difficult change can be; and how easy and natural it is, consciously or otherwise, to resist it. The question then is how to balance this desire to manage and influence change against our natural fear of its unpredictable and chaotic nature.
