Checklists

Use this checklist to ensure that you have captured all of the key elements of a successful improvement plan.

Exercises

Brainstorming is an excellent technique for generating improvement ideas. This team exercise encourages participants to collate a range of suggestions, then identify the best ones to progress further

The aim of process mapping is to examine each step of an existing process in order to identify weak areas. Use this exercise, either individually or with a team, to analyse one of your current processes to establish where improvements could be made. Allow 90 minutes.

Benchmarking is an effective way of sourcing improvement ideas. The aim of this exercise is to identify and select an appropriate range of organisations or internal departments to benchmark your own organisation/area of responsibility against. No separate facilitator guidance is required.

This exercise ensures that your benchmarking exercise is a thorough one by taking you through three essential stages: objective setting, data collection and follow-up action planning. No separate facilitator guidance is required. Allow 90 minutes.

Templates

Once your improvement initiative has been formulated, it is essential that its implementation is as effective as possible. This template provides you with a framework for capturing all the information that an improvement implementation plan should contain.

As part of your continuous improvement plan, you may wish to survey other employees to get their suggestions on what your organisation or area could be doing more efficiently. This template provides you with an ideal tool for gathering their thoughts and opinions.
